Description
Presented is a wonderful silver plated mug with a glass bottom made in the late 1800s. The mug was made by Henry Wilkinson & Co. out of Sheffield, England. Henry Wilkinson & Co. was in business from around 1831 to 1892. The mug is really beautifully hand chased with ornate floral and shell patterns. The front of the mug has a large open cartouche. The handle has a traditional flowing design and acanthus leaf form for a thumb grip. The glass bottom is still in good shape and is strong, thick glass. The mug is marked with the maker's mark for Henry Wilkinson & Co. that denotes silver plating. The bottom of the mug is marked T.W in a different font, we are unfortunately unable to identify these initials.
The mug is in excellent condition. The hand chasing is still crisp. The glass bottom has a few minor scratches but they are hardly noticeable. There are no splits, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The mug is approximately 4 3/4 inches tall and 3 3/8 in diameter.
The mug weighs 428.8 grams.
