DeGrazia is the penultimate Arizona painter and an icon
of the mid century period! His story is compelling and filled
with larger than life moments!  Born to Italian immigrant
miners in Arizona, he was supposed to follow in his father's
footsteps and become a miner. But this was not for him!
He traveled nearly penniless to Mexico to watch Diego Rivera
and his idols paint and create.  He worked with Rivera as
an assistant and developed his own primitive style!
He returned, married and with bills to pay.
His paintings could not be given away.  Scenes of
firing squads and poverty were not popular and DeGrazia's
works would be left out overnight outside his studio
in Tucson and no one would even steal them!
Even with a favorable Arizona Highways write up in 1941,
DeGrazia's primitive works just didn't catch on with the public.
Enter Buck Saunders!  Saunders had the first Gallery in Scottsdale,
Arizona and featured the finest artists from art colonies in the
region. His gallery was perhaps the most prestigious in the
entire southwest.  Saunders convinced DeGrazia that his
    work needed to be brighter and cheerier to be marketable;
that buyers wanted to buy the southwest, but wanted works
that would uplift and inspire them each time they would
look at them.  DeGrazia took his words to heart and
worked with Saunders to sell his art.
Angels, children and the most charming subjects
    imaginable came forth!
At this time, he experimented with tile, murals, pottery,
sculpture and textiles. DeGrazia gave many mediums a try
and then settled with what he was most comfortable - painting.
    After this period
    DeGrazia worked with a lithographer
to copy his works so he could sell the same work
more than once. He would sign limited edition lithos.
Offered is the Holy Grail for DeGrazia collectors!
Original DeGrazia textile art from the early sixties
and sold by Buck Saunders Gallery!  This magnificent work

    !
Rare doesn't even begin to describe this work!
The original purchaser was told that this work was one of
DeGrazia's few textile works and that he likely would not
be continuing them because they were too time consuming!
Naturally, Buck Saunders closed the sale and this collector
acquired some of the rarest and unique DeGrazia pieces
    ever made!
And now this piece of art history is available for purchase
for the first time since it was originally sold.  The work is
